Former IU basketball star Cody Zeller acquired by Atlanta in trade – The Daily Hoosier

Former IU basketball star Cody Zeller is on the move as part of a multi-player trade.

The Atlanta Hawks have acquired guard Dyson Daniels, forwards EJ Liddell and Larry Nance Jr., and center Zeller (via trade), a 2025 first-round pick (via the Lakers) and a conditional 2027 first-round pick (lowest Bucks/Pelicans, top-four protected) from the New Orleans Pelicans in exchange for guard Dejounte Murray, it was announced today.

An 11-year NBA veteran, Zeller has played in 552 career games (including 275 as a start), averaging 7.9 points, 5.7 rebounds and 1.3 assists in 20.9 minutes, playing for Charlotte, Portland, Miami and New Orleans.

Last season with the Pelicans, the Washington, Indiana, product averaged 1.8 points and 2.6 rebounds in 7.4 minutes, playing 43 games.

Now 31, Zeller played two seasons with Indiana and found immediate success, winning Big Ten Freshman of the Year honors in 2012, as voted by the coaches. He was named to the All-Big Ten first team for the 2012-13 season.

During his career at Indiana, Zeller averaged 16.1 points and 7.3 rebounds per game while shooting 59.3 percent from the field.

He was selected with the fourth overall pick in the 2013 NBA Draft by Charlotte.
