Death investigation in Harrow – cause of death determined

As part of the death investigation in Harrow, investigators have determined the cause of death of the four people.

Autopsies determined that the cause of death for 41-year-old Carly STANNARD-WALSH, 13-year-old Madison WALSH and 8-year-old Hunter WALSH was gunshot wounds. 42-year-old Steven WALSH was determined to have suffered self-inflicted gunshot wounds.

There is no immediate threat to public safety, although the OPP reminds all citizens to remain vigilant about their personal safety at all times.

Members of the Essex County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) began investigating on June 20, 2024, after receiving a request to check on the welfare of a person in the home, which led to the discovery of the deceased individuals.

The Essex County OPP Crime Unit investigation is ongoing under the direction of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch and with the assistance of the OPP Forensic Identification Services, in collaboration with the Office of the Chief Coroner and the Ontario Forensic Pathology Service.

Initial investigations have determined this to be a case of intimate partner violence (IPV). IPV is a serious and widespread problem. IPV involves the use of physical, psychological or sexual violence, whether actual or threatened, in an intimate relationship. However, these acts are not always physical in nature and may include emotional and psychological abuse, economic control or coercive control. The OPP encourages anyone experiencing IPV to contact police or your local Ontario Victim Services branch to develop a safety plan.

Anyone with information regarding this investigation should contact the OPP at 1-888-310-1122. If you wish to remain anonymous, you can contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS) or ontariocrimestoppers.ca.
