Study reveals the real reason why women masturbate – and how often they do it

Come back?

Women masturbate to relieve stress, not because they are driven by wild sexual fantasies, a new, buzzworthy study from Switzerland shows.

As part of the hot study, 370 Swiss women between the ages of 18 and 56 were surveyed for a month. The study examined how often they masturbated and the motives behind the solo sessions.

On average, each woman masturbated nine times over the 30-day period – or about twice a week.

However, those who reported high stress were more likely to masturbate more frequently.

“According to the women in our study, masturbation serves as a strategy to elicit positive emotions and promote relaxation during stress,” the researchers explained in their study published in the International Journal of Sexual Health.

“These findings are consistent with previous research that has highlighted the role of masturbation as a coping strategy for psychological stress and as a means of relaxation.”

According to the study, 64 percent of the women surveyed said they masturbate to cope with stress.

At the same time, only 55 percent said that playing alone was fun.

“For me, it’s an outlet for stress,” wrote one woman. “I notice that I masturbate more often during exam time, for example.”

“(Masturbation) distracts me and relieves stress,” said a second.
