Massachusetts kayaker, another man found dead in Rhode Island pond

Police on Saturday identified two men who were found dead in a pond after they failed to return from a nighttime kayaking trip on July 4. Gregory Boerman, 37, of Allston, Massachusetts, and Joseph Fritz, 52, of East Providence, Rhode Island, were both found during the search after they were reported missing. According to East Providence, Rhode Island police, Boerman and Fritz were reported missing late Thursday after kayaking on Omega Pond, off Roger Williams Avenue. Two empty kayaks were found when searchers used a drone to sweep the shoreline. One body was found nearby. The second body was found a short time later. “The incident remains under investigation by detectives and the state medical examiner,” police said. “The deaths do not appear suspicious at this time.”

Gregory Boerman, 37, of Allston, Massachusetts, and Joseph Fritz, 52, of East Providence, Rhode Island, were both found during the search after being reported missing.

According to East Providence, Rhode Island police, Boerman and Fritz were reported missing late Thursday after kayaking on Omega Pond near Roger Williams Avenue.

Two empty kayaks were found when the search team used a drone to search the coast. A body was found nearby.

The second body was found a short time later.

“The incident is still being investigated by detectives and the coroner,” police said. “The deaths do not appear suspicious at this time.”
