Montgomery County officers involved in shooting with drunk driver | Upper Gulf Coast

MONTGOMERY, Texas – A Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office deputy fired his weapon during an encounter with a drunk driver on July 5, 2024, after the suspect brandished a pellet gun.

According to a news release from the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office, officers responded to a crash involving a drunk driver near the 7000 block of Forest Hills Drive at approximately 3:45 p.m. The suspect, identified as 27-year-old Tobias Sangster of Montgomery, fled into a wooded area to evade capture. During the search, Sangster appeared and pointed what appeared to be a rifle at officers, prompting one of the officers to fire several shots.

Sangster dropped the weapon and was arrested unharmed. It was later determined that the gun was an air pistol. Sangster was charged with aggravated assault on a public servant and driving under the influence of alcohol.

The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office Homicide and Violent Crimes Unit, along with crime scene investigators, are conducting a thorough investigation into the incident.
