Flood of support for Kevin Sullivan after “devastating accident”

The wrestling community is supporting former wrestler and booker Kevin Sullivan after his family launched a GoFundMe campaign to cover his medical expenses following an accident. Wrestling personalities from Chris Jericho to Dutch Mantell have taken to social media to ask their fans for help.

According to his fundraising page, Sullivan suffered a “devastating accident” in May while in Florida for a book signing. After undergoing emergency surgery to save his life and his leg, Sullivan developed complications including sepsis and encephalitis.

“This unforeseen disaster has placed a tremendous financial burden on his family as Kevin continued to lose consciousness in the intensive care unit far from home,” said a statement on Sullivan’s GoFundMe page. The statement added that although he had health insurance, his coverage was almost exhausted due to the length of his stay.

The fundraiser was organized by Sullivan’s daughter Nicole on July 5. In less than a day, the campaign surpassed its $20,000 goal, thanks to contributions from Jericho, Jim Cornette and his wife Stacey, as well as Cody Runnels and others.

“Words cannot express our gratitude,” Nicole wrote, “the response on the first day has been simply remarkable. This is a time when many are facing challenges of all kinds and the willingness to help my father is immensely appreciated.”

During the 1980s and 1990s, Sullivan was one of the darkest villains in wrestling. He famously feuded with the likes of Dusty Rhodes and Hulk Hogan. Sullivan was also an ally and at times rival of Ric Flair and his stable, the Four Horsemen, with various factions. In addition, Sullivan also worked as a booker for World Championship Wrestling.

Funds raised for Sullivan will cover his ongoing hospital and medical expenses, skilled nursing care, acute and subacute occupational and physical therapy, and transportation for his return home.
