Former Penn State football player among three killed in early morning car crash in Maryland – WPXI

A former Penn State football player was among three people killed in a car crash in Maryland early Saturday morning, police said.

According to Maryland State Police, 24-year-old Anthony Lytton Jr. died in a three-car crash in Prince George’s County.

Penn State football mourned the loss of 24-year-old Lytton on social media, saying their “thoughts and prayers are with his family, friends, high school and all those affected by the tragedy.”

According to Maryland State Police, Khyree Jackson, 24, and Isaiah Hazel, 23, also died in the accident. The three men all attended Dr. Henry A. Wise High School in Upper Marlboro, Maryland. Wise Athletics expressed its condolences to the families in a social media post.

Hazel played college football in Maryland and Charlotte.

Jackson was selected in the fourth round of the 2024 NFL Draft by the Minnesota Vikings. According to the Associated Press, he was vying for the starting cornerback spot at the team’s training camp in late July.

The Vikings released several statements on Saturday saying they were “devastated by the news.”

“I am heartbroken by the loss of Khyree,” Vikings general manager Kwesi Adofo-Mensah said in one of the statements. “As we got to know him leading up to the draft, it was clear what goals Khyree wanted to achieve both professionally and personally. His story was one of resilience. He took steps to become the best version of himself, not only for himself, but for those who cared about him and looked up to him.”

According to police, all three men were in the same vehicle at the time of the accident. Hazel was driving and Lytton and Jackson were passengers. The investigation so far shows that another car attempted to change lanes at a “high rate of speed” and struck the car driven by Hazel and another vehicle.

No further injuries were reported in the accident.

Investigators believe alcohol may have played a role in the accident. Charges are pending “pending the completion of the investigation and consultations with the Prince George’s County District Attorney’s Office.”
