Governor offers $25,000 reward in baseball bat attack on elderly Kinston woman

KINSTON, N.C. (WITN) – Gov. Roy Cooper is offering a reward of up to $25,000 for the baseball bat attack on an elderly Kinston woman that occurred four years ago.

Nell Pittman had just picked up her food at Jessie Bell’s Soul Food on E. Vernon Avenue on January 2, 2020, when a man with a metal baseball bat attempted to steal her car.

According to Kinston police, the then 72-year-old woman was hit three times in the head.

Despite a $3,500 reward and an artist’s depiction of the attacker, no one has been arrested in the case.

Pittman was in a coma for a time and the attack left her with a severe brain injury.

Anyone with information about the woman’s attack should call the Kinston Police Department at (252) 939-3139 or the State Bureau of Investigation at (919) 662-4500.
