3 former Wise High School football players, including Vikings CB Khyree Jackson, killed in Maryland crash – NBC4 Washington

Three former Dr. Henry A. Wise Jr. High School football players were killed in a traffic accident in Upper Marlboro, Maryland, early Saturday morning, Maryland State Police said.

The three men were identified as 23-year-old Isaiah Hazel, 24-year-old Anthony Lytton Jr. and 24-year-old Khyree Jackson. All three were former students of Wise High School, according to a social media statement from the school’s athletic department following the accident.

Jackson was most recently a cornerback for the Minnesota Vikings after being drafted into the NFL in April of this year. Vikings head coach Kevin O’Connell released a statement following the fatal accident.

“I am absolutely devastated by this news,” the statement said. “Khyree brought a contagious energy to our facility and team. His confidence and engaging personality immediately attracted his teammates.”

“In our short time together, it was obvious that Khyree would develop into a great professional football player, but even more impressive was his desire to become the best person he could be for his family and those around him,” the statement continued. “I am at a loss for words. My condolences go out to Khyree’s family, friends, teammates and coaches.”

On July 6, just after 3:14 a.m., Maryland State Police troopers responded to a crash on Route 4 northbound near Presidential Parkway, authorities said.

The crash involved three vehicles: a silver Infiniti Q50, a silver Chevrolet Impala and a maroon Dodge Charger. All three men killed were in the Charger.

According to police, the 23-year-old woman driving the silver Infiniti was speeding while attempting to change lanes on northbound Route 4 in Prince George’s County.

As she was changing lanes, she collided with the other two cars involved in the crash, police said. The Infiniti hit the Dodge Charger first, then the Chevy Impala.

The Charger veered off the right side of the road and hit several tree stumps before coming to a stop, police said.

The driver and two passengers in the Infiniti were uninjured.

The driver of the Impala, who was the only person in the car, was also uninjured and refused medical treatment at the scene, police said.

Hazel and Jackson were pronounced dead at the scene by emergency responders. Lytton was taken to the University of Maryland Capital Region Medical Center, where he later died.

According to police, Hazel was driving the Charger while Jackson was in the passenger seat and Lytton was in the back seat.

No charges have been filed against the driver of the Infiniti as the accident is still under investigation. According to Maryland State Police, charges will not be filed until the investigation is complete and the Prince George’s County District Attorney’s Office has been consulted.

Investigators believe alcohol may have contributed to the accident, police said.

The northbound lanes of Route 4 north of Dower House Road were closed for several hours after the accident Saturday morning before reopening at 10:20 a.m.
