Suspect in custody after sexually assaulting UCLA student in dorm

A man suspected of sexually assaulting a UCLA student in her dorm room early Friday morning is in custody, campus police said.

The incident occurred at about 2:40 a.m. Friday when a man entered the Saxon Suites dormitories through unknown means and attacked the student in her bed, UCLA police said in a news release.

The incident was reported to police immediately after the man fled the room, police said. The man was described as a heavyset man in his 30s who had a curly beard. He was wearing all black clothing and a beanie.

No further information was provided about the suspect in custody, and UCLA police did not immediately respond to calls and emails about the incident on Saturday.

The victim, whose age was not given, received medical treatment on site, according to the press release.

UCLA police urged students to report suspicious activity to police at (310) 825-1491.
