Parsonsfield crash under investigation | newscentermaine.com

Officials said a 23-year-old man collided with another vehicle and a garage before leaving the scene of the accident early Thursday morning.

PARSONSFIELD, Maine – State police are investigating an accident that occurred on the morning of July 4 in Parsonsfield.

In the early hours of Thursday morning, the Augusta Regional Communications Center received reports of an abandoned pickup truck and boat in the travel lane of Route 160 in Parsonsfield, Maine Department of Public Safety spokeswoman Shannon Moss said in a news release.

When state police arrived at the crash, they found that the driver of the blue 2009 Chevrolet 1500 pickup truck, which had a 12-foot aluminum boat loaded in the bed, was traveling on Route 160 when he missed a turn and collided with a parked vehicle and the garage of a residence.

“The driver then backed up and left the scene,” Moss said. “Due to the extent of the damage to the vehicle, the driver of the pickup truck left a field of debris, including the boat that fell out of the truck.”

Moss said the driver, identified as 23-year-old Joshua Hermance of Parsonsfield, then continued driving, shredding the driver’s side front tire until it was completely detached from the rim.

“At this point, the driver abandoned his pickup truck and fled the scene of the accident,” the press release states.

State police said Hermance is cooperating with the investigation. He is accused of failing to report the accident promptly, failing to notify the property owner of an accident involving property damage, failing to report or return to the scene of an accident involving property damage, and leaving the scene of an accident involving property damage.

Hermance and the homeowner were not injured, Moss said.

The state police investigation is ongoing.
