Suspect arrested after 10-year-old boy was struck and killed while riding his bike in northwest Harris County on July 4, authorities say

HARRIS COUNTY, Texas (KTRK) – A driver who allegedly struck and killed a 10-year-old boy on July 4 has been taken into custody.

The above video is from an earlier report.

On Saturday morning, Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez announced that 36-year-old Alex Tuan Vuong was arrested and charged with failure to stop and render aid in connection with the accident.

Vuong is currently incarcerated in the Harris County Jail.

Investigators say the victim, Mohammad Khel, was just a few doors down from his home in the Grand Oaks neighborhood of West Harris County when he was struck while riding his bicycle.

Harris County investigators said a dark-colored SUV ignored a stop sign, struck Mohammad and continued driving for nearly a mile, trapping the boy’s bicycle underneath.

Investigators say the driver got out and picked up the bike at the corner of Greenhouse and Kiev Harrow.
