Court has appealed against NOC suspension

ISLAMABAD: A contempt of court plea has been filed in the Islamabad High Court (IHC) against the suspension of No Objection Certificate (NOC) for the Islamabad Power Show of the Pakistan Movement for Justice (PTI), ARY News reported.

More specifically, the petition was filed by Tehreek-e-Tahafuz-e-Aein coordinator Khanzaada Hussain against the suspension of NOC for Tarnol Jalsa.

The petition urged the court to initiate contempt of court proceedings against the officials as the NOC had been dissolved despite the court order.

The petition named the Chief Commissioner, the Deputy Commissioner, the Inspector General and the Superintendent of Police (SP) Tarnol as respondents, among others.

According to the petition, the Deputy Commissioner of Islamabad had informed the court on July 4 that an NOC had been issued to PTI.

Later, when PTI chairman Amir Mughal was leading the officials to the Power Show venue, he was arrested by the police outside the DC office, the petitioner added.

The petition further stated that PTI came to know about the development after Islamabad Police tweeted regarding the cancellation of Islamabad Power Show NOC.

Following the tweet, the Deputy Commissioner of Islamabad sent a letter to the petitioner yesterday informing him about the cancellation of the NOC.

Yesterday, the Chief Commissioner of Islamabad revoked the No Objection Certificate (NOC) issued to the PTI for public gathering just a day before the scheduled meeting.

The decision was taken at a meeting chaired by the Islamabad Police Commissioner, where security authorities expressed concerns about the potential risks associated with the rally.

The district administration of the federal capital had given permission to the PTI to hold a public meeting near Tarnol Chowk on July 6.

After issuing the NOC, the Islamabad High Court (IHC) has rejected the application for issuance of a NOC for a meeting. Justice Babar Sattar of the Islamabad High Court heard the application seeking permission for the PTI meeting in the federal capital.
