Weather warning for Monday and Tuesday

Drive slowly and be aware of heavy rain and the risk of aquaplaning on Monday and Tuesday.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A weather watch day is in effect for Monday and Tuesday afternoon as deep tropical moisture builds along the First Coast, bringing scattered showers to start the work week.

The First Coast News Most Accurate Weather Team™️ is issuing a Weather Advisory for Monday, July 8 and Tuesday, July 9 from 12 p.m. to 7 p.m.

EFFECTS: 70% to 80% rain and thunderstorm coverage in the greater Jax area and much of the First Coast. Heavy rain, localized flooding, especially in areas that have seen recent heavy rains. This includes frequent lightning strikes as the primary hazard.

This is due to a trough formation in the upper atmosphere early in the work week, accompanied by deep tropical moisture, and is partly, but not exclusively, related to the landfall of Beryl in Texas.

NEED: Drive slowly on the roads and watch for heavy rain and aquaplaning. Listen for thunder and seek shelter if storms are approaching. News from First Coast Handy app for tracking live radar and sending severe weather alerts directly.

Additional comments: There is a possibility of additional days of weather impacts on Wednesday and Friday, but currently the probability of precipitation is just below our threshold.
