“An unimaginable loss.”

These are the issues the family of Chester High School football player Zaheem Sabree is grappling with as they try to come to terms with his death.

A GoFundMe campaign has been set up for the 17-year-old model student who was killed in a shooting on the 100 block of 24th Street in Chester on Sunday.

Organizers said Sabree’s death has left his family with heavy hearts and they mourn the loss of a vibrant young man who was loved by all who knew him.

Family members said Zaheem was a real comedian and party animal.

“He had the ability to light up any room with his charm and his big smile and always make everyone around him shake with laughter,” family members said in the fundraising appeal. “Those who knew him loved him! His presence was a joy and his laughter will be greatly missed.”

Sabree, who would have graduated from Chester High School in the fall, played a key role in the Clippers’ 2023 playoff run. Funds raised will be used to cover his final expenses as well as establish a memorial scholarship for Chester High School student-athletes.

Sabree’s athletic ability was evident early on, family members said. He excelled in basketball and on track.

In elementary and middle school, he regularly competed in the Junior Olympics in track and field. In high school, his love of football blossomed and he quickly became a star on the field.

As of Friday, 56 donations had raised over $3,400 of the $10,000 goal.

“We ask that you keep everyone who loved Zaheem in your prayers,” family organizers said. “Thank you for helping us honor Zaheem’s memory and for your support in the face of our unimaginable loss.”

The police are still searching for his murderer.

Chester Police Chief Stephen Gretsky said in a press release that anyone with information about this murder should contact Chester Detective Michael Maher at 610-447-8428.
