New York man who slaughtered his 8-year-old sibling, attacked his parents is shot dead by police; neighbor says he ‘never smiled’

The 20-year-old man who stabbed his 8-year-old brother to death and attacked his parents in their Queens apartment on Thursday “never smiled and always had a serious face,” a neighbor said.

According to New York Post Pedro Felix, 20, reportedly killed 8-year-old Jacob Lopez, who was either his brother or stepbrother, stabbed his mother, Channel Lino, before turning the blade on his father, 43-year-old Jose Adan Perez. NYPD officers responded to reports of violence at the Queens apartment on July 4 and found Pedro holding his father in a headlock over the kitchen sink with a knife to his throat.

The family’s neighbor, Vanessa Rivera, said the boy “never smiled and always had a serious face.”

“He never had contact with anyone. When we met in the hallway, he didn’t say hello or anything else to me,” Vanessa was quoted as saying by NYPost as I said. She added that she only saw Pedro when he entered and left the apartment.

Vanessa noticed that the family’s behavior was completely opposite to Pedro’s. “Whenever you saw them, they were smiling. I can honestly say I never saw them angry at each other. They were just my neighbors, they were so happy, so lovely. You would never have thought that in a million years,” she said.

Police suspect the attack was the result of a domestic dispute.

NYPD Chief John Chell said Thursday that police were called to the scene when Pedro’s mother, bleeding profusely from a stab wound to her back, ran outside and “begged for her life.” Pedro was shot by officers when they caught him holding his father in a headlock over the kitchen sink and holding a knife to his throat.

“They repeatedly gave orders in English and Spanish to drop the knife. He did not. An officer fired a shot, hitting the target and saving the man’s life,” Chell was told by the NYPost As I said.
