The LaSalle County Coroner’s Office identified the man killed in a fireworks accident early Friday morning as 25-year-old Chance W. Ruger of Ottawa.

LaSalle County officials were called to the 3000 block of E. 12th Road in rural Ottawa shortly before 12:30 a.m.

Ruger was taken to St. Elizabeth Hospital, where he later died.

An autopsy was performed on Friday; preliminary results are still pending.

Police say the incident is still under investigation.
