Death of a prisoner in Central Florida is being investigated

The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the death of an inmate in Central Florida.

An inmate at the Falkenburg Road Jail in Tampa was found unconscious by staff shortly after 8:30 p.m. on July 4.

According to authorities, the inmate was taken to Brandon Regional Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. At this time, it appears the inmate suffered a medical incident.

The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office said at the time that the inmate would be identified once next-of-kin notification was complete.

According to local law enforcement authorities, the investigation is still ongoing.
