PEORIA, Ill. (WMBD) – A man who was charged earlier this week with ignoring animal control orders to confine his dogs has been allowed to leave the county jail.

But Peoria County Judge Mark Gilles required Robert Cady, 45, to promise not to own or keep dogs in his home as a condition of his pretrial release, meaning Cady could be sent back to Peoria County Jail if he fails to comply with that pledge.

He is currently charged with two counts of failure to comply resulting in serious bodily injury. These offenses are Class 4 felonies and carry a maximum sentence of three years in prison.

The charges were filed after dogs owned by Cady and Gabrelle Jones, 23, escaped on June 27 and attacked and injured a couple walking on Moss Avenue near the Bradley University campus last week.

Peoria County Animal Control had previously ordered the couple to lock up their dogs because they were considered dangerous animals due to previous biting incidents.

It was not clear whether Jones is in custody. The Peoria County website, which stores inmate information, was down Thursday and Friday.
