At around 1:09 p.m., Miami-Dade police were called to a shooting in the 7300 block of Northwest 36th Street near Doral. When officers arrived, they found three men shot. One died at the scene and two others were hospitalized, according to MDPD Detective Andre Martin.

One of the men was taken to hospital by helicopter, the other by ground transport. Their condition is currently unknown.

Martin says police have arrested five men and are being questioned. The shooting has not been confirmed. He also said the “hectic scene” was an isolated incident stemming from an argument in the back of the mall that escalated into physical violence. Officers stopped a white SUV at the scene, in which the men who were eventually arrested were detained.

“It could have been a very dangerous situation,” Martin said.

The relationship between those arrested and those injured and killed is currently unknown.

The block of NW 36th Street where the mall is located was temporarily cordoned off for the investigation, but Martin said stores will be allowed to remain open.

While the MDPD Homicide Unit investigates, Martin also told reporters that at least two weapons were found at the scene. Additional details about the circumstances of the shooting are still being investigated.
