Editor’s Note: This article was written on Thursday. The Storm Tracker 2 team is closely monitoring Beryl’s latest movement.

Official track of Hurricane Beryl:
Hurricane Beryl intensified overnight to become a Category 3 hurricane, but made landfall around 6 a.m. Friday in the Yucatan as a Category 2 hurricane. It will then head toward the Bay of Campeche where it is expected to strengthen into a hurricane before making landfall Sunday.

Regardless of Beryl’s path, the risk of rip currents will be high throughout the weekend, particularly towards the end of the weekend as Beryl moves closer to the coast.

What to Expect in Southeast Texas:

The consensus is that Beryl is expected to track northeastern Mexico or southern Texas Sunday night. If this track holds, the heaviest rain will fall west of Houston. Through Saturday, we will see only coastal impacts. People who had coastal flooding with Alberto can certainly expect to see more. We will have high surf and swells as well as a high risk of rip currents through Sunday. On this track, rainfall amounts will be light through Monday.

10 day forecast:

After Beryl arrives, the weather will change. As was the case a month ago, heavy rain is possible every day for the next week. This rainfall will depend on how far Beryl moves west and north once it reaches Texas.
