California Department of Justice Investigates Officer-Involved Shooting in Hemet Under AB 1506 | State of California – Department of Justice

OAKLAND – California Attorney General Rob Bonta announced today that the California Department of Justice (DOJ), pursuant to Assembly Bill 1506 (AB 1506), will investigate and independently review an officer-involved shooting (OIS) that occurred on July 4, 2024, in Hemet, California. The OIS incident, which resulted in the death of one person, occurred at approximately 1:30 a.m. and involved Hemet Police Department officers.

After the California Department of Justice learned of the incident, the California Department of Justice Police Shooting Investigation Team began an investigation pursuant to the provisions of AB 1506. Once the investigation is complete, it will be turned over to the Department of Justice’s Special Prosecutions Division within the Division of Criminal Justice for independent review.
