Favorites in control in Buffalo

HAMBURG, NEW YORK — Buffalo Raceway featured three harness races on Friday afternoon (July 5) and all were won by the favorites from the start and throughout.

In the $9,000 Class B trotting events, Worth A Whisper (Wishing Stone-Mariko Hanover, $3.80) led every leg beating Hellrider by 2-3/4 lengths while later in the card, Jacked (Muscular mass-Krafty, $3.90) proved to be the best to topple Rough Tough Tested by 3-3/4 lengths.

The $9,000 Class B Pace was the closest of the three events as RD Skippy (Sneaky B’s Skipalong-Art In Motion, $6.10) held on for a neck-and-neck victory over Confidence Man.

It was a great day for driver Kyle Swift, who has four wins for 60 this season. He won both $9,000 trotting races.

Worth A Whisper wasted no time from the finish line and posted splits of 30.1, 1:01.1 and 1:30.2. En route to the finish line, Hellrider (Mike Caprio) was the main threat but was unable to catch Worth A Whisper (Swift). Classic Sunny (Kevin Cummings) finished third.

Jointly owned by Thomas and Diane Wescott and trained by Thomas Mays, 8-year-old Worth A Whisper earned her fourth win in 20 starts this season. The victory brought her seasonal earnings to $24,874 and $189,880.

In the second category, Jacked (Swift) posted splits of :29.2, :58.3, 1:28.3 and easily clocked a time of 1:57.4. He dashed the hopes of Rough Tough Tested (James McNeight Jr.) who took second while Walter’s Keepsake (David McNeight III) was third.

Owned by Vogel & Wags Nags LLC and trained by Maria Rice, Jacked has now won three times this year in 19 attempts. The victory boosted his 2024 stakes to $32,828 and $145,251.

RD Skippy managed to beat Confidence Man late in the race by a neck in 1:55.3 on the fast track.

With fractions of :28.3, :58.2 and 1:27.2 on the clock, RD Skippy (Kevin Cummings) had to stay strong until the end, taking the score from Confidence Man (Shawn McDonough). Century Grizzly (McNeight III) took the show position.

Owned by Franklin Meier and trained by Angelo Nappo, it was the fourth time this season that 6-year-old RD Skippy has reached the podium. The victory boosted his earnings to $21,730 for the campaign and $165,570 for his career.

Kevin Cummings scored twice while Nappo and Jim Graham each recorded two practice wins.

Racing will resume on Saturday evening at 6:00 p.m. with 12 races on the program.
