Why Enzo Fernandez is suspended for Chelsea’s FA Cup quarter-final against Leicester

Enzo Fernandez will miss Chelsea’s FA Cup quarter-final against Leicester due to suspension.

Mauricio Pochettino’s team will host Leicester at Stamford Bridge on Sunday with a place at Wembley at stake.

But Fernandez is suspended for this game after receiving a yellow card in the last round against Leeds.

The £106m transfer was booked for dissent after expressing his frustration at the lack of a decision.

Fernandez went down after a Leeds free kick, but the game was called off and Dan James ultimately shot over the bar.

In the FA Cup, players who receive two yellow cards in the competition are banned for the following match, a milestone that Fernandez has now reached.

The midfielder also received a yellow card in the previous round when Chelsea beat Aston Villa 3-0 in a replay. This card was also unnecessary as Fernandez was penalised for removing his shirt after a wonderful free kick.

With the Blues already missing a number of first-team players through injury, Pochettino will be frustrated at losing a key man in midfield.
