Police say SWAT standoff underway in Chula Vista – NBC 7 San Diego

A man fired a gun into the ground and out a window at a Chula Vista home on Friday, leading to a standoff with the SWAT team after police arrived at his request to check on his welfare.

According to Chula Vista police, the shooting broke out shortly after 12:30 p.m. Friday in the 500 block of D Street, near Fifth Avenue.

There were no reports of injuries, and the shooter – described as a shirtless man in his early 40s – did not appear to be targeting police officers or anyone else with his ammunition, the CVPD said in a statement.

After the man ignored repeated requests to leave the house and surrender, special weapons and tactics personnel were sent, police said.

Residents of surrounding houses were told to stay in their homes until the situation was resolved.
