Green Haven inmate attacks correctional officer and injures three others who tried to restrain him

Authorities say an inmate at the Green Haven Correctional Facility in Dutchess County attacked a correctional officer and injured three others as they tried to subdue him.

They say the 37-year-old inmate was observed walking toward an officer, acting strangely and mumbling. When two officers came within reach of the man, he allegedly punched one of the officers in the face.

According to the officers, the inmate pushed the other officer away when she tried to intervene.

Two other officers were injured while trying to detain the man.

The inmate is serving a sentence of 14 years to life after being convicted of sexual assault.
