POTOMAC, Md. (DC News now) – Fire officials said a playground at Greenbriar Local Park caught fire Tuesday evening.

Pete Piringer, Public Information Officer for Montgomery County Fire & Rescue Service (MCFRS), said the Park Police and MCFRS are investigating the fire.

The fire occurred at the park on Glen Road around 10 p.m

This was announced by the Maryland-National Capital Park Police in a publication that the fire caused approximately $1 million worth of damage.

In a post Thursday morning, Piringer said it was still an open and active investigation. Anyone with information should call the MCFRS Arson Hotline at 240-777-2263 or Park Police at 301-949-8010.

Park police said the playground will remain closed until further notice. Another playground in the park for children ages 2 to 5 was not damaged and remains open.

Officials said the playgrounds were part of a park renovation in 2016.
