Brewster police mourn the death of an officer, a Newburgh man was convicted of rape, a Westchester man was arrested for theft

Brewster police are mourning another loss in their ranks. According to the department, Jose Colon died Friday while off-duty. Colon was with the department for two months after 20 years with the NYPD. The death was the second Brewster officer to die in as many weeks.

Officials say a Newburgh man will spend seven years behind bars for rape. Obed Arellano-Mendez pleaded guilty in October to raping a person who was unable to consent due to physical discomfort. Arellano-Menden also received a five-year suspended sentence and must register as a sex offender.

A Westchester County man has been arrested for stealing hundreds of thousands from his employer in Connecticut. Authorities say South Salem resident Ryan Jensen stole $385,000 worth of electrical equipment and tools from Mars Electric last year. Jensen faces theft and other charges and is due back in court on May 17.
