Nevada resident arrested in connection with stabbing near Newport Pier

A brawl Thursday night ended with the arrest of a man who allegedly attacked another man during a scuffle in the 2200 block of West Balboa Boulevard, police officials said.

Newport Beach police said Friday the incident occurred around 8 p.m. when a group of men got into an argument with another person. The reasons for the argument are unclear, but the suspect allegedly slashed the victim’s leg with a knife, causing serious injuries.

All those involved were taken to a hospital for treatment. Authorities did not identify the victim but said Axel Kenneth Williams, 21, of Henderson, Nevada, was arrested on suspicion of assault with a cutting tool.

Court and jail records released Friday afternoon did not indicate whether or not Williams is still in custody, nor did they provide any information on when he is expected to appear in court.

According to an 8:53 p.m. release, police closed southbound Balboa Boulevard at 23rd Street Thursday evening while they investigated the incident.
