Fatal fireworks accident in LaSalle County

LASALLE COUNTY, Illinois – A 25-year-old man was killed in a fireworks accident in Illinois, authorities said.

Officials said the man was taken to a local hospital and later died from injuries sustained in the accident. His identity has not been released pending notification of his family.

The incident remains under investigation by the LaSalle County Sheriff’s Office, the LaSalle County Coroner and the Illinois Department of Natural Resources.

Almost all personal fireworks are illegal in Illinois unless specifically permitted by ordinance. Most cities on the Illinois side of News 8’s coverage area prohibit their use without a permit. Fireworks such as ground spinners or sparklers are permitted.
