Jude Bellingham has been given a one-match suspended ban and fined €30,000 (£25,000) by UEFA for his controversial gesture against Slovakia.

This decision means he will be available for England’s decisive quarter-final of the 2024 European Championship against Switzerland on Saturday.

European football’s governing body has launched an investigation into the gesture in which Bellingham pretended to touch his genitals during Sunday’s victory over Slovakia.

UEFA sent a letter to Bellingham asking him to explain his actions and also contacted the Slovak Football Association to find out its opinion on the alleged offence.

It was claimed that the gesture was directed towards the Slovak bank.

Bellingham apparently stuck to his claim that the gesture was an “inside joke.”

When footage of the gesture emerged after the game, Bellingham tweeted: “An inside gesture to some close friends who were at the game. Nothing but respect for the performance of the Slovakia team tonight.”

Nevertheless, 21-year-old Bellingham was fined and given a 12-month UEFA one-match suspended ban.

Bellingham seemed pleased with his punishment and was all smiles during England’s training session on Friday morning.

The Three Lions face their biggest challenge of the tournament so far, as Switzerland put in an impressive performance on their way to the quarter-finals, knocking out defending champions Italy in the round of 16.
