Gurugram: Police say youth attempted to sexually abuse minor girl and then killed her

Gurugram, July 5 (IANS) – A 16-year-old boy who strangled a 9-year-old girl and tried to burn her body in Gurugram on July 1 has admitted that he also tried to sexually abuse the minor victim before killing her, police said on Friday.

A senior police official said that following the shocking confession of the accused, Section 8 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act has been incorporated in the case.

According to police, she received a call at around 10:45 am on July 1 informing her that a minor girl had been attacked by a teenager who was staying in her neighbourhood in Sector 107 under Rajendra Park police station.

The boy had gone to the girl’s house while her mother and brother were at the suspect’s house on work-related grounds.

According to police, the girl was in the toilet when the boy allegedly tried to steal jewelry from the house. When the girl caught the suspect in the act, she tried to raise the alarm.

However, the boy pushed the girl onto the bed and strangled her before setting her on fire with white naphthalene bullets, police said.

When the neighbors heard the girl’s screams, they arrived at the scene of the accident, but by that time the victim had already succumbed to her injuries.

The teenager initially claimed that two thieves had broken into the house and killed the girl, but later confessed to the murder.

“The boy kept changing his statement to deceive the police, but eventually he revealed the truth. He also confessed that he had tried to sexually abuse the girl before killing her,” an official said.

During questioning, the youth also said that he had lost over Rs 20,000 on an online gaming app.

“He had borrowed Rs 20,000 from his friends and had to repay the money on July 1. To repay the amount, he stole jewellery from the victim’s house, which the police have seized,” the officer added.
