2 people arrested in meth investigation near Pine River – Brainerd Dispatch

PINE RIVER – A Longville man and woman were arrested Wednesday, July 3, after their vehicle was stopped as part of an ongoing drug investigation in Cass County.

A Cass County Sheriff’s Office officer stopped the vehicle around 9 p.m. on Highway 371 in Wilson Township, south of Pine River. The vehicle was stopped as part of an ongoing investigation into the use, sale and trafficking of illegal controlled substances.

A Cass County Sheriff’s sniffer dog was used to search the vehicle. Approximately 2 pounds of suspected methamphetamine was found inside the vehicle. During the course of the investigation, officers learned that the suspected methamphetamine was intended for sale and distribution in Cass County and on the Leech Lake Indian Reservation.

The vehicle has been seized and is subject to confiscation.

“Most investigations begin with a tip from the public,” Cass County Sheriff Bryan Welk said in a press release. “The Cass County Sheriff’s Office encourages you to report suspected drugs and other crime-related information to the Sheriff’s Office. You can ask to speak with investigative personnel and you can remain anonymous. You can also report tips and information online through Crime Stoppers of MN on their website crimestoppersmn.org.”

The Paul Bunyan Drug Task Force assisted in the investigation.

Our newsroom occasionally reports under the name “Staff.” The “Staff” name is often used when rewriting basic news briefs from official sources, such as a city press release about a road closure that requires little or no reporting. Sometimes this name is used when a story has multiple authors or when the story consists of compiling previously reported news from various sources. When outside sources are used, this is noted in the story.
