Man charged after woman walking dog attacked in McHenry Park – NBC Chicago

A Wisconsin man has been charged with attempted murder and aggravated assault, including strangulation, after what authorities say was an apparently random attack over the weekend on a woman walking her dog in a suburban park.

According to police, Raymond P. Link, 47, was walking his released dog in Petersen Park in McHenry on Sunday when he suddenly attacked a 59-year-old woman who was also walking her dog.

According to court documents, the suspect is accused of kicking, kicking and punching the woman in the head and neck and then attempting to strangle her while she was unconscious. The brutal attack left her with multiple open fractures and a serious eye injury, according to court documents.

The suspect’s dog is also said to have attacked the woman, causing her further injuries.

Police said a 37-year-old man, who did not know Link or the woman, intervened during the attack. According to court documents, Link allegedly punched the man in the chest and arms “at least 12 times” and ordered his dog to attack him.

The second victim suffered a broken collarbone and multiple lacerations, police said.

Link, who is from West Ellis, Wisconsin, was charged with one count of attempted murder, two counts of aggravated assault, one count of aggravated assault by strangulation and two counts of aggravated assault in a public place.

Police do not believe there was a connection between Link and the woman and described the attack as “unprovoked.” Link was arrested at the scene while his dog fled the area and was later located and turned over to McHenry County Animal Control.

Link was taken to the McHenry County Jail to await trial.

Police said the incident was still under investigation.
