Son of the RCS director who was seriously injured after a storm accident

Rutherford County Schools Superintendent Jimmy Sullivan’s youngest son was involved in a tragic event Wednesday night following the May 8 storms.

Sullivan says his 10-year-old son, Asher, was caught in the storm drain and swept beneath the neighborhood streets while the children played while neighbors helped clean up the storm’s debris.

When Asher was rescued from the drainage ditch, he was given prolonged cardiopulmonary resuscitation. His heartbeat has been restored, but the damage is significant, Sullivan said Thursday.

Asher is currently in critical condition at Vanderbilt. Sullivan said Asher’s lungs were severely damaged and he wasn’t showing much brain activity other than muscle twitches.

RCS is organizing a volunteer community prayer vigil that will be held at the RCS district office on Thursday at 2 p.m. Everyone is invited to attend and show their support for the Sullivan family.
