Olaniyi Sunday, 30, was remanded to a correctional facility on Friday by the Ado-Ekiti High Magistrate Court for allegedly raping a minor.

The defendant, whose address was not given, is accused solely of alleged rape.

Police prosecutor Insp Sodiq Adeniyi told the court that the accused allegedly committed the rape of a 12-year-old girl at Araromi in Omuo-Ekiti between April and June.

Adeniyi said the accused, a neighbour of the victim, saw her stealing meat from another neighbour’s pot and threatened to expose her on the condition that he have sex with her.

He said the victim only accepted the condition after she was raped in the process.
