Houston native hosts event Saturday to keep special needs children safe

HOUSTON (KIAH) — Last week, 12-year-old Aisha Adebayo went missing near her home in Fulshear. Sadly, her body was later found in a nearby lake. Aisha was nonverbal and autistic. And her parents say she was known to wander the neighborhood.

Today, one woman has made it her mission to ensure such tragedies never happen again.

Houston native and autism advocate Sheletta Brundidge fights for services, help, and change in the way children with special needs are treated and viewed across the country. As a mother of three children with autism, she sees it as her mission to ensure that every moment of their lives is treated with love, honor, and respect, and that their safety needs are always met.

That’s also why she launched her campaign called “Spread Love with Locks.” She will be giving away 100 FREE special security locks during a lock giveaway at the YMCA on Cavalcade from 10 a.m. to noon on Saturday, July 6.

The goal is to ensure that children with special needs are safe in their own homes. CW39’s Sharron Melton speaks with Brundidge to talk more about the campaign and how it will change the lives of children with special needs and their families.
