Buffalo man charged after Amherst police break up pool party

A Buffalo man was arrested Thursday after Amherst police responded to a noise complaint at an apartment complex near Sweet Home Road, according to the Amherst Police Department.

Police said that when they arrived around 5:45 p.m., officers saw more than 150 people gathered around the pool, the majority of whom were not residents of the complex. Most of them left without incident.

But police said they saw an individual who appeared to be shooting fireworks into the remaining crowd.

Police charged Jayquan Montgomery, 22, with second-degree reckless endangerment, second-degree illegal trafficking in fireworks and second-degree harassment.

Montgomery was released on bail and is expected to return to Amherst Town Court at a later date.
