I-57 in Franklin County closed due to hazardous materials incident early this morning

Traffic Report: I-57 Mile 68

7:48 a.m. Update from the Franklin County Sheriff’s Department and the Franklin County Emergency Management Agency.

The northbound and southbound lanes of Interstate 57 are currently closed at the 68mm level. All traffic is being diverted to the West Frankfort and Benton exits. Yellowbanks Road is also closed at the intersection with Interstate 57.

Police, fire brigade, rescue service and EMA personnel are on site and are dealing with an accident involving a truck that was transporting hazardous goods. The closure is expected to last 2-4 hours.

Avoid the area and take alternative routes.
