Teenager wrote 300-word essay on Porsche car crash in Pune | News from Pune

PUNE: A 17-year-old minor involved in a Porsche car accident in Pune that killed two technicians has submitted a 300-word essay on road safety as part of his bail conditions, an official confirmed on Friday.

The paper was submitted to the Juvenile Justice Board (JJB) on Wednesday, the official said.

The teenager had been released from an observation home the previous month after the Bombay High Court ruled that the remand orders against him were unlawful.

The incident took place on May 19 in Kalyani Nagar, Pune, where the minor, allegedly under the influence of alcohol, rammed a two-wheeler while driving a Porsche, resulting in the death of two software developers.

After the accident, the JJB initially ordered that the minor be placed under the care and supervision of his parents and grandfather and required him to write an essay on road safety.

“Hours after the fatal accident on May 19 in Kalyani Nagar area of ​​the city, the JJB had ordered that he be placed under the care and supervision of his parents and grandfather. The minor was also asked to write a 300-word essay on road safety,” the official said.

Amid nationwide outrage over the minor being released on lenient bail conditions, the police approached the JJB seeking a modification of the bail order, following which the panel ordered the minor to be sent to an observation home on May 22.

Later, the Bombay High Court intervened, declared the remand illegal and released the minor. The High Court stressed that the laws for juveniles must be fully implemented.

“The Supreme Court ordered his release on the grounds that the orders were illegal and stressed that the juvenile justice law must be fully implemented,” the official added.
