34-year-old man killed while handling fireworks on Chicago’s northwest side

CHICAGO – A man was killed while handling fireworks in the Belmont Gardens neighborhood on July 4.

The 34-year-old was handling a firework around 10 p.m. when he suffered “physical trauma” in the 3000 block of North Kostner Avenue, police said.

He was pronounced dead at the scene. The Cook County Coroner’s Office has not yet released his identity.

Area Five detectives are investigating. No further information has been provided.
