Driver sought after 10-year-old boy struck and killed while bicycling on Windy Stone Drive in northwest Harris County on July 4

HARRIS COUNTY, Texas (KTRK) – After a young boy was hit and killed while riding his bike in northwest Harris County, officials are searching for a hit-and-run suspect.

It happened on the Fourth of July holiday just before 11 p.m. on Windy Stone Drive near Concord Green Drive.

Harris County sheriff’s officials said an SUV was traveling north on Concord Green Drive and the 10-year-old boy was traveling west on Windy Stone Drive when the collision occurred. The driver fled the scene without stopping to help the child, officials said.

The boy was flown to Memorial Hermann Hospital, where he was unfortunately pronounced dead.

According to HCSO, the bike became stuck under the driver’s SUV after he hit the boy.

Officials said the driver apparently left the boy’s bike about a half-mile down Greenhouse Drive.

The only description available to investigators was that the suspect was driving a dark SUV.

The sheriff’s office hopes someone with a camera captured the exact incident.

“We are searching the area. We believe we may have video,” said Captain Marcus Kinnard-Bing. “A lot of people have heard things, but we are still working on the video.”

Officials believe the 10-year-old boy lived in the neighborhood. It is not clear if he was wearing a helmet or if his family was in the area when the fatal accident occurred.
