First Alert Weather Team monitors dry spells and more storms this weekend – Action News Jax

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Action News Jax’s First Alert Weather Team is monitoring dry spells and more storms this weekend.

First Alert meteorologist Corey Simma says Friday morning will bring a warm and humid start to a hot day. Storms will remain isolated and mostly inland. Beaches and I-95 should stay mostly dry.

Simma says there is a moderate risk of rip currents on the beach today. It is not a high-risk day, but he still advises beachgoers to be cautious.

There will continue to be isolated thunderstorms on Saturday and it will remain very hot. The amount of precipitation will increase by Sunday and into next week.

In the tropics, Hurricane Beryl is expected to make landfall today on the Yucatan Peninsula near Tulum and south of Cancun. The storm will weaken over land and then move into the Gulf of Mexico. Some strengthening is expected before making landfall a second time near the Texas-Mexico border.

Behind Beryl, there is another area to keep an eye on, following a similar direction. This area will move into the Gulf next week and develop into a low pressure system or named storm.

Florida is unlikely to be affected by Beryl or the tropical wave behind it. The next name on the list is Debby.
