Former YSRCP MP arrested in Andhra for allegedly raping a minor

Kurnool: Andhra Pradesh Police have arrested former YSRCP MP J. Sudhakar for allegedly raping a minor girl repeatedly over four years, an official said on Friday.

Sudhakar, 50, a former MP from Kodumuru, was arrested on Thursday following a complaint by the 17-year-old girl who provided “video evidence” to the police.

“He (Sudhakar) raped the minor girl several times from 2019 to 2023 when she was working as a maid in his house,” Vijay Sekhar Reddy of Kurnool sub-district police office told PTI.

The police arrested the former YSRCP MP under sections 376 and 506 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. He has also been remanded in judicial custody.

According to police, before the formation of the new TDP-led government in the state, a video showing the girl being molested went viral on the internet, but no one came forward to lodge a complaint against the then sitting MP.

But on Thursday, the minor girl gathered all her courage and filed a complaint against Sudhakar after the formation of the new government in Andhra Pradesh.

Incidentally, the girl and her parents worked as domestic help in Sudhakar’s house in Kurnool city.
