Fires and accidents reported by Indiana County 911 on July 4

Independence Day turned out to be a busy day for emergency responders in Indiana County.

A brush fire was reported on Route 286 West in Young Township at 1:26 a.m. Thursday, marking the 32nd.and Brushfire emergency call the county received this year. Firefighters from Iselin-West Lebanon were called to the fire.

Two structure fires were reported Thursday. The first occurred in Jefferson County, when the Rossiter Fire Department was called to assist with a fire on Orvetta Street in Punxsutawney at 3:25 a.m. Multiple fire departments were called to a fire in a shed and a mobile home. No injuries were reported.

The other structure fire occurred at 5:58 p.m. on Shelocta Road in Armstrong Township. Elderton, Indiana and Creekside fire departments were dispatched along with Citizens Ambulance and the HazMat Team. Details of that fire have not yet been released.

A car accident was also reported yesterday morning. Saltsburg Fire Department, Lifestat Ambulance and State Police were dispatched to Canal Street at 9:23 a.m. for the accident.

And the severe storm that passed through last night also prompted a few emergency calls. In White Township, two calls were reported for downed power lines at 8:39 p.m. and 9:03 p.m., both in the East Oak Street area. Indiana and Creekside fire departments were dispatched. Iselin-West Lebanon firefighters were dispatched to a basement pumpout on Coleman Road in Young Township.
