Leader of Shiv Sena (Punjab) attacked with swords in Ludhiana

Ludhiana: A Shiv Sena (Punjab) leader was allegedly attacked by four people with swords here, police said on Friday. His condition is serious, they said.

Sandeep Thapar was allegedly attacked as he was leaving the Samvedna Trust office near Civil Hospital after attending a ceremony to mark the fourth death anniversary of Ravinder Arora, the trust’s founder and president, police said.

Four “Nihangs” waiting outside allegedly attacked Thapar with swords, causing head injuries, police said.

He was immediately taken to hospital, where his condition was determined to be serious.

Thapar’s security personnel were on the spot when he was attacked.

The attackers managed to escape, said Inspector Gurjit Singh.

Samvedna Trust provides free ambulance service to patients and vehicles for transporting the bodies to the cremation grounds.

Nihangs belong to a Sikh warrior sect whose members are usually seen wearing blue robes and carrying traditional weapons.
