Severe weather warning day: Heavy storms possible late in the day

Well, for us, this Friday is generally a quiet start, but severe weather warnings are in place today as we brace for possible strong to severe thunderstorms later in the day. But most of today will be dry, as was yesterday, that’s actually the case in Pittsburgh on the action cam. As we look toward downtown and get closer to sunrise, it’s a nice start to the day. We have a lot of clouds overhead and will have a mix of sun and clouds throughout the day. The current temperature is 74 degrees and just like yesterday, it’s muggy. The dew point is 71 degrees, so you’ll feel the humidity throughout the day. Our heat and humidity may cause some of these storms to pick up again later. Today, we’re generally talking about around 6:00 p.m., and that threat will last until around 11:00 p.m. tonight. So a small window of opportunity, but in that window of opportunity, the storms could hit hard. Temperatures are generally in the upper 20s across Western Pennsylvania, with only Franklin and Waynesburg being exceptions. Currently 73 degrees in Monroeville, 72 degrees in Kittanning, and 70 degrees in New Castle. A FEW SPOTS OF RAIN HAVE ALSO PASSED THROUGH WESTERN PENNSYLVANIA. BUT AGAIN, WE ARE MOSTLY DRY AND THAT WILL BE THE TREND FOR THE DAY. TODAY WE ARE WATCHING A SYSTEM THAT IS MOVING SOUTH AND WEST AND CROSSING THE MISSISSIPPI RIVER. NOW IT WILL MOVE NORTH AND EAST AND IN OUR DIRECTION THROUGHOUT THE DAY. AND THAT’S WHAT WE’LL BE WATCHING TO GET SO THAT IT’S GOING TO PRODUCE MORE RAIN AND STORMS AFTER DINNER TODAY. SO UNTIL THAT TIME ONLY SPOTATED OR SPOTATED SHOTS OF RAIN ARE POSSIBLE. BUT AGAIN, MOST OF YOUR FRIDAY WILL BE DRY. AFTER 6 AM WE’LL BE WATCHING RAIN AND STORMS MOVE IN FROM THE SOUTH AND WEST. AND AGAIN, IF THOSE STAY STRONGER, DAMAGING WIND AND HEAVY RAIN WILL REALLY BE OUR ONLY CONCERNS TODAY. BUT WITH HEAVY RAIN, THAT COULD MEAN LOCAL FLOODING. SO WE’LL BE WATCHING THAT THREAT CLOSELY. THE RAIN SHOWERS WILL DECREASE AS THE NIGHT GOES ON, ON SATURDAY THE SKIES WILL CLEAR UP AND THE HUMIDITY WILL DOWN AS WELL. RAIN AMOUNTS WILL BE LIGHT IN GENERAL UNLESS YOU GO INTO ONE OF THESE MORE SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS, AND AGAIN: RAIN AMOUNTS COULD BE A LITTLE HIGHER. SO THAT’S WHAT WE’LL WATCH IN THE EVENING HOURS. AGAIN, NOT EVERY STORM IS SEVERE TODAY, BUT THE LIKELIHOOD IS THERE. 87 YOUR HIGH TEMPERATURES, SOME RAIN BEFORE THESE EVENING STORMS ARRIVE HERE. WARM AND HUMID. IF YOU GO TO THE PIRATES GAME TONIGHT THAT’S ABOUT THE TIME WE’LL BE WAITING FOR AFTER THESE MONTHLY STORMS. I THINK THE GAME IS TODAY WHEN THE METS COME TO TOWN. 6 41ST PITCH BUT KEEP IN MIND YOU’LL BE DODGING SOME RAIN DROPS AGAIN. 70 TONIGHT. THOSE STORMS EARLY AND THEN THE RAIN WILL DISAPPEAR HERE AS THE CLOUDS CLEAR OVERNIGHT, 85 TOMORROW, 88 ON SUNDAY. LOW 90S ON MONDAY AS HUMIDITY STAYS LOW. A DAY OF IMPACT ON TUESDAY FOR MORE SPOTATED RAIN, AND THEN WE STAY

Severe weather warning day: Heavy storms possible late in the day

Showers this morning will taper off, and there’s another day of scattered showers through Friday. Late today, after dinner, we’ll see a line of storms approaching to the southwest of us. That could help spark some stronger storms tonight. The main concerns with storms developing tonight are damaging winds and flash flooding. Today is a severe weather watch day. There’s a chance storms will be hard to develop later today, so widespread severe weather is unlikely, but like late Thursday, one or two storms could get strong enough to cause problems. We’ll dry out this weekend, and humidity will drop by Sunday. On Monday, our temperatures will climb back into the 30s. Our next system will arrive on Tuesday, now just into the second half of the day, bringing showers and maybe a few storms with it. The rain looks to get here in time for the evening rush hour, so Tuesday is an impact day. We’ll stay more seasonal late next week, perhaps with another cold front next Friday. Today: Severe weather warning day. Scattered showers with storms late in the day. High: 87. Tonight: Severe weather warning day. Storms and rain early. Low: 70. Saturday: Mostly sunny. High: 85.
