RTL Today – Luxembourg Army: Officer suspended over allegations of sexual abuse

A non-commissioned officer in the Luxembourg army has been suspended after being accused of sexually abusing a female soldier, according to a report by Radio 100.7 on Friday.

The Ministry of Defense confirmed these details and said that a judicial investigation had been underway for a month and a half.

Defense Minister Yuriko Backes, the Defense Ministry and the Army are taking the allegations very seriously, it is reported Radio 100.7The minister was informed immediately when the incident became known internally.

According to information from 100.7The complaint was filed against the non-commissioned officer by a young soldier who has already been serving in the army for a long time. The complaint was filed in mid-May, and a week later the officer was suspended. He is no longer allowed access to the barracks in Herrenberg and is not allowed to have any contact with the alleged victim.

An investigating judge is currently investigating sexual harassment. If it is determined that the noncommissioned officer held a position of power over the soldier, the penalties could be doubled according to the penal code.

Since the investigation is not yet complete, the presumption of innocence applies.
