Fireworks in Harrisburg canceled after weapons found on teenagers, several arrested: police

Several people were arrested and detained at the fireworks event in Riverfront Park after police seized several firearms at the scene.

Commissioner Carter said police seized several weapons from juveniles and arrested four people. “I felt it was appropriate to stop the fireworks and close the park,” Commissioner Carter told CBS21.

According to police, a firearm and a replica firearm were confiscated and another firearm was thrown into the river next to the Walnut Street Bridge.

Harrisburg City Official Matt Maisel issued a statement after the chaos at Riverfront Park, saying someone ran through the crowd where Mayor Williams was sitting with her family and knocked her over. Mayor Williams reportedly suffered minor injuries and is home “doing well.”

The city of Harrisburg informed the public on Facebook at around 9:30 p.m. that the fireworks display would end early for safety reasons and that those present should quietly leave the event.
