One person died and eight were injured in a July 4 mass shooting in Philadelphia, police said – NBC10 Philadelphia

At least one person was killed and eight others, including four children, were injured in a July 4 mass shooting in southwest Philadelphia, police said.

The shooting occurred on South 60th Police said the two men became trapped between the intersection of Street and Kingsessing Avenue at around 11:45 p.m. on Thursday.

Five adults and four children were injured in the shooting. One of the adults succumbed to his injuries. Police have not yet released any information on the condition of the eight survivors, any suspects or the background to the shooting.

The shooting occurred nearly a year after another mass shooting in southwest Philadelphia.

As of Thursday, 131 murders had been reported in Philadelphia so far in 2024, 40 percent fewer than in the same period last year, police data showed.
